The Governor of the Bank of Algeria, Mr Mohamed Laksaci, has pledged that his financial body will issue shortly more 2000 Dinar banknotes as part of the renewal of the monetary supply in circulation in Algeria.

• Taking the floor Monday before the MPs of the lower chamber of Parliament, Mr Laksaci largely dwelt on the progress achieved so far on the economic and financial plans since the year 2010 and the first semester of the current year.

• He indicated that 63 million of the new 2.000 Dinar banknote had been issued so far or the equivalent of 126 billion Dinars while promising to hike this figure in the short and medium term.

• Replying to deputies’ repeated queries about the spoiled 200 Dinar banknotes still in circulation, the Governor of the Bank of Algeria pointed out that this damaged banknote would be duly withdrawn in the next few months.
