Lamamra: stereotyped image about Algeria will not change position over Western Sahara
Algeria’s foreign minister Ramtane Lamamra Sunday sat the record straight in terms of Algerian-Moroccan relations. “Algeria does not like fuelling the situation,” he said in response to Moroccan King’s remarks.
Lamamra held Morocco and its King responsible for the last remarks impact on the bilateral relations future. He described them as “inappropriate.”
“Those remarks can lead to the worst. We understood that there will be a larger conflict between brothers. The world is making progress and is more and more attached to principal values such as self-determination,” the minister told a news conference.
Speaking about international relations history, Lamamra said a betrayal action took place on November 6th in 1975. “A regional expansion have been conducted for 40 years.”
“Algeria wants to always export peace, security and stability in its neighbourhood,” he added.
“As you know, our Constitution stipulates to settle international conflicts in a peaceful way. We also have to contribute in peace and security and achieve the UN goals. We do not want to fuel the situation,” he also said.
“Fortunately, the UN Secretary General Bank Ki Moon expressed the international legitimacy opinion. It showed the same position adopted by Algeria in this regard. That means giving Sahrawi people the self-determination right,” he added.
According to Lamamra, repeating a stereotyped image about Algeria will not change that position adopted by the international community.
