Lawyers’ strike paralyses courts countrywide
Lawyers affiliated to the Union of Algiers as well as the other scattered in different corners of the country have yesterday stopped their activities in response to the call launched by the Lawyers’ General Union during their extraordinary assembly held in Bejaia, 250 Kms eastern Algiers, on October 14-15.
-
The courts of Algiers and different others around the country have witnessed a complete paralysis yesterday.
-
In his quality as a member in the Union, professor Chaib Sadek has indicated that the movement was followed at 100% , noting that the lawyers have not only boycotted the hearing sessions but didn’t go to the justice courts also.
-
He further declared that the lawyers’ decision to go on a three –day strike is designed to pressure the relevant authorities to withdraw the profession’s draft law that, according to him, doesn’t comply with the international standards of defence rights.
-
M Chaib has indicated that the lawyers across the country are committed to execute the Assembly’s decisions through the boycott of the sessions in a move to fulfil their demands. One of them consists in the revision of the law over the civil and administrative measures.
