Libyan NTC member: No threat over SONTARCH deals in Libya

Talking in interview made to Echourouk, the member of the Libyan National Transition Council Abderrezak Abdesselam El Aaradi has asserted that the investments of the Algerian hydrocarbons company ( SONTARCH) in Libya are secured so are past sealed contracts.

  • Echourouk: The constitutional communiqué that you have made public recently would be pave the way for the founding of the future political institutions, what should be the role of the NTC members?

  •

  • Al- Aaradi: We have formally signed a document in which we pledged not to run for any political position in the future institutions after the end of the transitional period whether in the legislative or the executive bodies for five years.

  •

  • Echourouk: Is it the case for both Mustapha Abdeldjellil and Mahmoud Djibril?

  •

  • Al- Aaradi: That was the deal that has been struck unanimously by all the members of the National Transition Council.

  •

  • Echourouk: Don’t you think that the absence of such high profile personalities would have a negative impact on your future cooperation with your regional and international partners?

  •

  • Al- Aaradi: That must be true, but we wanted to show the world that our foremost and utmost goal was to establish a democratic system not to oust some individuals to replace by others.

  •

  • Echourouk: Most of the Libyan assets and investments abroad are still unknown; do you think that you can succeed to make an acute assessment of their total value?

  •

  • Al- Aaradi: This is a big challenge to take on and we can prevail with the help of the honest former officials that defected to succeed in this endeavour. We are also counting on the help of international political and financial institutions to shed light on the Libyan assets and forward them to the Libyan people.

  •

  •

Echourouk:: Is there any threat on the investments of the Algerian hydrocarbons’ company in Libya?

  •

  • Al- Aaradi: The NTC had clearly announced that the former deals will be respected including those sealed with Sonatrach.
