Libyan refugee families decide to live in Algeria

Algeria-Libyan families displaced from their country since the outbreak of war in the various Libyan cities decide to buy houses in Illizi (South of Algeria), while other families preferred travelling to big towns like Algiers, Setif (East), and Oran (West) to live there, and due to fear of reprisals that might assassinate their families, especially since they are pro-Kaddafi tribes belonging to Kadadifa, Makariha, Refla and Terhouna, and Touregs as well, which occupied a special place for the late president Colonel Muammar Kaddafi.

On the other hands, other Libyan families of Algerian origin left southern towns like Ouergla, Ghardaia and decided to return back to their families in Libyan and start thinking of a stable life through sending their children to schools and universities and build new houses due to the destruction of their homes during the war, especially families which fled from Ghadames.

Some Libyans decide to create private companies with Algerians and invest in southern areas near the borders with Libya such as Illizi, Tamenrasset, Ouergla and Hassi Messaoud. While others preferred to live temporarily in Algeria and bought expensive houses due to speculation in real estate after the security incidents in Libya.

Previously, hundreds of Libyan families linked by marriage ties with Algerian families did not find a substitute for the areas adjacent to the borders and moved there escaping from war in their cities.

Latest statistics show that over 7.000 people, including more than 1200 family entered Algeria since the outbreak of war in Libya.

Algerian authorities have provided humanitarian aid and medical assistance, especially in the recent events in Ghadames where clashes between NTC fighters and the Touaregs left many liquidations and assassinations.

Some other Libyan families express fear over the situation in Libya saying that they are waiting for the return of security in their country and did not express their joy and wish to return back home.

These families are rich, like most of the Libyan citizens, and many of them belong to the pro-Kaddafi tribes (Kadadifa).

Sources from these families said they preferred living in Algeria after the destruction of their cities, where NTC fighters seized their properties and real-estate.
