The government is due to review the system of wage of MPs, as to make it more rigid and ultimately making of the Parliament “a clean institution,” Minister of Interior, Daho Ould Kablia said Tuesday.

At the margins of the ceremony of the installation of the Election Monitoring Commission, Mr Ould Kblia told reporters that the government considers making of the parliamentary seat a benevolent action to deter “money mercenaries” from reaching it.

The people believe that the main concern of MPs is to make money and fill their bank accounts, on the expense of their duty of conveying problems of the population to the decision makers. The MPs enjoy lucrative monthly wage and several advantages.

Meanwhile, and concerning the consultations that the US Embassy in Algiers scheduled with representatives of political parties and the civil society during the recent visit of the US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, the official indicated that the US Embassy has not notified the authorities about such a meeting, adding that the Interior Ministry tend to respect the liberties and avoid restricting them.
