Maghreaban Intelligence officers discuss security in Nouakchott

A “high profile” meeting was held the day before yesterday in the Mauritanian capital, Nouakchott bringing together intelligence officials from the Maghreb countries in a bid to “coordinate efforts to face security threats in the region” and discuss security at the frontiers amid growing illegal immigration and contraband phenomena.

  •
  •
  • This meeting comes few days after the terrorist organization “Salafit Group” has claimed responsibility for the kidnapping of 6 tourists in the Niger desert.
  •
  • The Mauritanian News Agency yesterday revealed that a top military official, the general Mohammed Ould Abdelaziz conferred with “top Maghreban security officers to discuss with them security matters in the country”
  •
  • The same source added that the closed door meeting tackled the “ Salafit Group for Call and Combat” threats that grew menacing the regimes in the region and the movement of the people on the borders alike.
  •
  • Nouakchott’s meeting is seen as the most important one in the Maghreb region since months and the first after the cancellation of Bamako’s one a week ago following “Droudkel’s” claim for the abduction of foreign nationals in Niger.
