Malaria raises panic in Algeria
Malaria is has remarkably spread in southern Algeria as it takes tens of lives. The State spends billions to treat patients.
11 new cases reported
Afrane and Bamendil areas in the province of Ouargula are the most hit by the disease due to drinking water leaks.
Although Ouargula is the south capital and has billions of dinars to eliminate the disease, nothing has been done. That raises a question: who benefits from this situation?
The State spent around 3,000 billion DZ on drinking water network. Yet, it could not eliminate the disease source. Africans’ flow to Ouargula as it is a transit area is another source of Malaria. An affection case was reported with a 24-year-old African man.
The number of cases reached 11 in Ouargula. Of them, two Emiratis, an African and a 3-year-old boy were hit.
20 million to treat a patient in 3 days
A ministerial commission is in charge to deal with hit areas in Ouargula and keep watch on treatment in hospitals.
It said carelessness is behind the disease spreading and has nothing to do with Africans.
It costs about 20 million centimes to the State’s treasury spends to treat a patient for 3 days only while treatment period is between 1 and 3 months.
Affected persons run away
Three patient hit by Malaria quitted the Tirichine Central Hopsital in the province of Ghardaia. Some of them come from the province Tamenrasset. The hospital sounded the alarm while the medical staff in charge of treatment washed hands.

Chief of public health practionners’ union Lyes Merabet said Malaria spreads in high humidity areas in Algeria.
“Doubts have been raised about relation between African refugees or illegal immigrants and malaria cases in southern Algeria. People should be careful. Malaria can become a real pandemic if authorities do not take necessary measures,” he told Echorouk.
