Massacre of October, 17, 1961 a crime against colonized peoples, Algerian lawyer says

Algiers- Massacres by the French police against Algerians during the peaceful protests on October, 17, 1961 in Paris, strike on the entire humanity due to the crimes against colonized peoples, lawyer Miloud Brahimi said.

“Recognizing these massacres is a struggle at the Moral, political and legal levels. The International Criminal Court avoids talking about the crimes against humanity in the case of colonialism does not mean that the criminals are not convicted at the level of political moralities. Victims of the bloody repression by Maurice Papon on October 17, 1961 think that the French justice can be feasible in this case, but this is impossible”, he asserted.

The Association of May 8, 1945 was founded to be a civil party that accompanied victims of the repression of October 17, 1961 in court against the French state on charges of “a state crime”, however; French justice rejected the demand of applicants in a French court.

“France did not recognize the principle of responsibility when it recognized the Algerian war in the law of 1994. France joined the International Criminal Court and this prevented the issuance of a law on responsibility of the crimes committed during the colonial period. The International Criminal Court accepts only crimes that occurred after joining the issuance of its law”.
