Matmour: “I respect Benchikha's decisions and I am wholeheartedly with the Greens of Algeria”
The Algeria international and seasoned striker of the German Bundesliga squad, Karim Matmour, has declined to comment on persisting reports that he may be left out on the list of the Algerian players of the national football squad due to face Morocco as part of an African Cup of Nations' qualifier slated for March 27th in Annaba stadium.
- Karim Matmour said national team coach Abdelhak Benchikha was sovereign in his choices and that, as a conscious and bona-fide professional, he respected the coach’s decisions for the good of the Algeria line-up, as he put it in a telephone conversation on Thursday with “Echorouk” from Germany.
- Notwithstanding, in case he is eventually called up and included in the starting eleven by national team coach Benchikha, Karim Matmour has vowed to do his best in the upcoming decisive fixture versus the Moroccan national side.
- The Algerian international further acknowledged that the task on the pitch would be arduous versus the “Atlas Lions of Morocco” on account of the nature of the Maghrebian derby, stressing that this make-or-break qualifier was widely expected to be breath-taking and most thrilling.
- This is why, Matmour together with his team-mates bank on the support of thousands of Algerian fans as it was the case during the historic match versus Egypt in Blida stadium that culminated in a resounding 3-1 triumph for the Greens of Algeria.
