Medical interns open a new front of discord with the health ministry

Thousands of medical interns have yesterday staged a sit-in at Mustapha Bacha hospital here in Algiers, to express their outrage against a decision preventing them to donate their blood.

• Hundreds of them were stunned by decision made by the heads of the transfusion centers across several hospitals nationwide, denying them to donate their blood following instructions issued by the relevant ministry.

•  The spokesman of the medical interns has expressed his utmost outrage wandering how a ministry or heads of medical units could dare to deny the right for plain citizens to donate their bloods at the moment when the hospitals across the country are witnessing an acute shortage.

• One of the representatives has indicated that that the suspension of their protest movement is linked to the willingness of the relevant ministry to fulfil their entire socio- professional demands including the cancellation of the obligation of the civil service, that remains the major obstacle in the standoff between the protesters and the health ministry.
