Messahel: Algeria to reopen soon its Embassy in Tripoli (Libya)
The Minister of Maghreb Affairs, African Union, and Arab League, Abdelkader Messahel, said during a visit on Wednesday to Tripoli that he came to Libya with a support message from President, Abdelaziz Bouteflika, for the Head of the Presidential Council of the UN-proposed government and for the brotherly Libyan people.
In a joint press conference with the Deputy Head of the UN-proposed government’s Presidential Council, Ahmed Mitig, Mr Messahel added that Algeria has historical ties that link it to Libya, confirming that it won’t forget Libya’s solid backup during Algeria’s hard struggle for national independence and sovereignty.
“We stand in solidarity with the Libyan people as our first priority in Libya now because the coming stage is going to be for developing the border areas and such an action will help stabilize the two countries.” Messahel remarked.
Mr Messahel added that he will visit the Algerian Embassy’s compound in Tripoli, reaffirming that Algeria will send an Ambassador to Libya as soon as possible, hoping that Algeria would be the first country to reopen its embassy in Tripoli.
On the other hand, Mr Ahmed Mitig, said that the two sides had discussed topical issues related to borders as well as the projected reopening of the Algiers-Tripoli air-link and the successful Algerian experience in fighting the terrorism scourge during the nineties.
Mr Ahmed Mitig also that this visit by Mr Messahel marks the first visit of an Arab, African and Maghreb country to Tripoli, pointing out that such a visit means a lot to Libya as it is connected with Algeria through long borders while recalling that Algeria fully backed up the inter-Libyan political agreement in all the Skhirat rounds and even before them.
