Military doctors to examine degree holders for military service

Holders of university degrees can be banned from military service in Algeria only after consulting a specialist at a military hospital, according to a ministerial order published in the Official Journal on Monday.

• The new order which is expected to come into force on Tuesday stipulates to assign local medical committees to issue reports on graduates’ health eligibility for military service.
• Each committee across the country must include a military surgeon general, three doctors and a secretary in military health departments.
• One and a half years of national military service is compulsory for males.
