Minister tells details on incidents at courts of Algiers and Oran

Algerian justice minister Mohamed Charfi denied that incidents at courts in Algiers and Oran were planned. Investigations showed that the robbery in the court of the capital was committed by a man who had criminal antecedents and he did not steal any corruption-related file. The second incident which was an electric spark caused a fire and destroyed a number of civil files.

“A man entered in the court of Algiers at night and broke some offices door. He stole a laptop, screens and computer tools and sold them to a trader. As for the court of Oran, fire took place at civil case archives room due to an electric spark,” Charfi told members of Parliament on Thursday.

“Judicial authorities set up a security plan system to ensure the safety of people and properties in courts and protect files and data networks,” he added.

A total of 122 files were partially burnt and 50 totally burnt at the court of Oran.

The minister said electric cables and lamps were changed in all the archives rooms at the court of Algiers. Specialized teams went to the court of Algiers after the incident and examined computers and stored data base. “They realized that they were not spoilt and nothing was stolen.”
