Ministerial meeting due to meet in preparation of document for the lifting up of the state of emergency

An interministerial meeting is due to be held tomorrow to look at the decision to lift up the state of emergency, following the instructions issued by the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika during the cabinet ‘s meeting held last Thursday.

  •
  • The meeting, which comes three days after the cabinet’s one chaired by the president, will bring together the defence, justice, interior ministers in addition to the government’s Secretary General, official sources have revealed.
  •
  • The deputy minister of defence, Abdkemalek Guenaizia, the interior minister Dahou Oueld kablia, and the justice minister Tayeb Belaiz, will discuss the appropriate judicial measures to lift up the state of emergency in force since 1992.
  •
  • Sources have revealed that tomorrow’s meeting is designed to set up a steering committee entrusted with preparing the judicial measures to lift up the state of emergency following the instructions of the president, who asked also for a wider coverage of the political parties’ activities by the state’s media and allowing marches and rallies across the country except Algiers.
  •
  • According to Echourok sources, the decision to lift up the state of emergency is more likely to be announced by next Friday at maximum.
  •
  • On the other hand, the group of ministers is set to prepare a draft law over the fight against terrorism and organized crime to replace the void left by the lifting up of the state of emergency.
  •
  • While some observers don’t consider that the enactment of the state of emergency limits civil liberties and is just a means to facilitate the fight against terrorism as well as protecting the state’s institutions, other human rights associations and opposition parties regard it as a means to curb civil right including rallies and marches.
