Mohamed Charfi, head of the National Elections Authority, commented on the low turnout in the constitutional referendum, confirming that health conditions played a role and that there are presidents in major powers who were elected with 17% of the voting turnout.
Charfi said after announcing the results that “the conditions for the referendum constituted a challenge to any political change of any kind, and therefore 23% compared to the circumstances surrounding this process gives it an added value that cannot be underestimated.”
“The participation rate from the academic point of view raises a problem of legitimacy, and in major powers, presidents were elected with a participation rate of 17%,” he explained.
“The most important thing is that the electoral process took place in transparency. I dare anyone who gives me a deviation that occurred in one polling centres which number is 61.000 “.
“In the presidential elections, we elected a legitimate president, and today a constitution is halal and any vote is legitimate”.
