Moral Scandal Drags Former Algerian Consul To Justice

On March 25th 2021, the misdemeanor court of Bir Mourad Rais in Algiers will open the file of the former Algerian Consul General in Tunisia, who was charged with attempting to assault and harass an Algerian female citizen, working as an employee of the Civil Status Department of the Algerian Consulate General in Tunis.

The situation scandal touched all the norms and laws that regulate the functioning of the foreign affairs sector after the diplomat who spent nearly 20 years traveling between Arab and Islamic capitals, as his diplomatic mission in Tunisia was like a bad conclusion by attempting to assault an employee at the headquarters of the Algerian Consulate General.

The facts of the case, according to Echorouk’s sources, date back to May 23rd, 2016, when the former woman employee of the Algerian Consulate in Tunisia, named “N.L”, filed a complaint with the Attorney General of the Algerian Judicial Council at the time, against the immoral act committed by the former Algerian Consul General in Al-Jara Tunisia, called “BA”, who attempted to assault her, after he threatened to dismiss her from her job if she did not comply with his immoral orders, which made her contact one of the Algerian women MPs in Tunisia to help her report her case to the central administration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Algiers.

The victim, while being listened to by the Dean of the Investigative Judges at the Bir Mourad Rais Court, stated that the accused was trying to harass her every time, and that her refusal led him to treat her in a bad way far from “work standards”, and that his behavior was ambiguous and strange notably by inviting her every time to have dinner with him outside the walls of the consulate building.

Furthermore, he used to send her text messages, (SMS), or texts through her account “Facebook” and “Viber”, the content of which included inappropriate phrases and words that had nothing to do with a person with a prominent position.

According to our sources, the main defendant in the case, who is affiliated to the previous regime, has not yet appeared before the Dean of Investigative Judges at the Bir Mourad Rais Court to hear his own statements, despite the passage of 5 years on the one hand and the summons addressed to him on the other.
