Moroccan PM: “Algeria Is a Foe Seeking To Harm Our Interests”

Morocco returned to indulging in outrageous charges against Algeria, calling it the “adversary”, which is striving to harm it, through the vexed file of Western Sahara, also claiming that Algeria is abusing Morocco and seeking to deal a blow to its interests”.

The prime minister of Morocco, Saad Eddine El Othmani, has in this regard sent messages to unnamed foreign parties. Certainly, the characteristic of this speech is Algeria, in the opinion of observers, which has been echoed by the bitter politicians of the Moroccan Makhzen against their “eastern neighbor”.
Speaking about the Western Sahara conflict involving Morocco and the Polisario Front, Premier El Othmani said before heading to New York to attend the proceedings of the UN General Assembly after receiving a royal mandate to represent the kingdom in the largest annual meeting of the UN that “Morocco’s vested interests are targeted”.

El Othmani, who delivered a lengthy speech to the regional forum of the “Justice and Development Party” in Casablanca on Sunday evening, stated that “Moroccans can solve their internal problems and they do not need anyone to do this task”, as he put it.

The new fiery statements by the Moroccan prime minister come at a time when the annual meetings of the UN General Assembly are considered an annual date for a diplomatic confrontation with the Polisario Front, as numerous countries across the world firmly support the legitimate right of the Sahrawi people to self-determination, in line with the UN resolutions and conventions, and this clearly confirms that the territory of Western Sahara is being occupied by Morocco.

“Morocco is an enviable country,” El Othmani said, recalling an earlier speech by King Mohammed VI in which he spoke of external “envy”, stressing that Morocco has enemies and adversaries trying to harm it, without naming them.

A video clip posted on the official page of the Justice and Development Party (AKP), showed the Moroccan premier’s talk about “the existence of a policy of divide and rule, division and fragmentation, and impoverishment and dispersion of states. States have a principled position, not only for Morocco, but in all other countries”.

El Othmani lamely claimed that these third parties are trying to offend Morocco by broadcasting propaganda “such as to say that the Polisario Front is the only legitimate representative of the Sahrawis, while these citizens are located in their country (Morocco),” he said, referring to those Sahrawis who saw the occupation of their soil by Morocco way back in October 1975.

The Moroccan prime minister also referred to what he called many other attempts to “obfuscate” the facts. “These are things that we must be prudent beforehand, and Moroccans throughout history have always been vigilant and not been fooled,” he claimed.
