Moroccan authorities returned to fabricating problems against Algeria using the Syrian refugees and claiming that the Algerian authorities expelled 32 Syrian refugees to the Moroccan soil.
Moroccan media quoted on Friday a Moroccan security source as saying: “32 Syrian refugees, including eight women and seventeen kids, were arrested while being stranded on Wednesday morning in a trench that was previously dug by the Algerian authorities on its land borders with Morocco, and which was closed unilaterally in 1992, following their expulsion by the Algerian authorities, as they were taken by elements of the Algerian Armed Forces to the borders with Morocco.”
“Vigilance of the Moroccan border guards foiled the attempt, and forced the elements of the Algerian army to receive the Syrian refugees in the Algerian territory”.
Algerian security sources refuted the Moroccan allegations and described them as slandering against Algeria, as the Foreign Ministry did not receive any official position by the Moroccan allegations.
This is the second time in two months in which the issue of the flow of Syrian refugees across the Moroccan territories from the Algerian borders, came to interface of the tense relationships between the two countries.
At the end of last January the Foreign Ministry summoned the Algerian ambassador to Morocco in Rabat to inform him of the deportation of Algeria of over 100 Syrian refugees in tough humane conditions to Morocco.
Rabat asked the Algerian authorities to assume their complete responsibilities, especially as the matter concerns women and kids in a state of extreme fragility – according to a statement by the Moroccan FM.
Algeria responded by calling the Moroccan ambassador to Algeria, to protest and he denied the Moroccan accusations by saying; “Algeria does not need Morocco to teach it lessons when it comes to expressing care and great attention to Syrian nationals who are on its soil, as guests of the Algerian people which received them with its usual hospitality.”
It becomes clear, that the Moroccan regime is harassing Algeria, whenever the Moroccan diplomacy faced a “setback” as was last week, at a meeting of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
