Morocco's “Makhzen” in tight corner after Echorouk's fact-finding assignment report in occupied Sahraoui town of Dakhla (Part 7) (The End)
Writer and Journalist Anouar Malek
My trustworthy aim in compiling this fact-finding report was imbued by the quest for truth about the real intentions of the Sahraouis whose only objective is to get rid of foreign occupation and subjugation and to achieve their freedom and independence.
-
The deep cry for freedom and independence uttered in unison by the oppressed Sahraouis should promptly alert the international community whose bounden duty is to take the necessary steps to foster a just and lasting solution to the long-running western Sahara issue in consistence with international legality and the relevant UN resolutions providing for the holding of a fair and transparent self – determination referendum to test the will of the long-neglected Sahraoui people.
-
-
Anyway, I should say that I have never backed a regime which smothers the popular will and aspirations for freedom and independence and I have never made any distinction in terms of human rights’ violations anywhere in the world and in particular regarding the Moroccan regime’s heinous exactions unleashed against the oppressed Sahraoui people in occupied Western Sahara.
-
-
The official Moroccan news media which affirm the opposite have desperately sought to belittle me in the eyes of the international public opinion by indulging in mendacious remarks about me and my noble intentions aimed only at enlightening people about the ins and outs of the Western Sahara issue and the horrendous plight of the Sahraoui people.

As far as I am concerned, I wrote in my report exactly what I saw and what I heard during my recent visit to the occupied Sahraoui town of Dakhla, a visit which was carried out, I should point out, in all legality as I had not violated any laws there.
-
-
I entered Dakhla neither as an “intelligence agent” nor as “a spy” as mendaciously alleged by the spiteful Moroccan press but as an honest Algerian writer and journalist whose only objective there was to seek truth and to bring to light the legitimate concerns and aspirations of the freedom – seeking Sahraoui people in line with the lofty principles of the code of ethics of my profession whatever the Moroccan Makhzen’s diverging views on the matter.
