Algeria and Russia are still negotiating over the deal of two new Tiger class corvettes, the shipbuilding corporation OSK announced on Monday.

Yet, the CEO of OSK has, prematurely, indicated last week that Algiers and Moscow have signed the deal, at the sidelines of International Maritime Defense Show, IMDS-2011, in St. Petersburg.

“The technical side of talks over the building of two Tigre corvettes for the Algerian Navy has been accomplished,” reads a statement issue by OSK.

Yet, AFP has quoted a spokesman of the Russian group, Alexeï Kravtchenko as saying that “the two parties are still holding talks over other aspects in the deal,” without providing further details.

To recall, the CEO of OSK affirmed: “We have signed two agreements together with Rosoboronexport to sell two corvettes to Algeria.”
