MP Lakhdar Benkhallaf Calls For Approving The “Dead” Memory File!
The MP, Lakhdar Benkhallaf, piled pressure on the Speaker of the National People’s Assembly, Sliman Shannine, to edit the project to criminalize colonialism and remove it from the cabinet office drawers and transfer it to the government, considering that the memory file is a real test of the current authority in embodying national sovereignty and completing the path of independence.
The leader of the Justice and Development Front took advantage of the discussion session of the draft law to approve the May 8 national day for memory in the National People’s Assembly, on Sunday, to ask the chairman of the Council to adopt the initiative of 120 MPs regarding the revival of the project to criminalize colonialism and to edit the text that was proposed by deputies more than six months ago.
“The circumstances and reasons for its approval were created, and the administration of the council must send it to the government to express its opinion. The memory file with all its components is a real test of authority for the actual embodiment of national sovereignty and the completion of the path of independence through the memory file, which should be dealt with in a fragmentary manner – starting with asking France to recognize its crimes against the Algerian people during the colonial period and to address files related to the topic of memory, such as retrieving skulls of martyrs and icons of popular resistance”.
“Retrieving the archives, especially those related to the liberation revolution, which is a file that will help uncover many absent facts related to the revolution and colonial agents who infiltrated to the positions of responsibility and decision-making circles and they were a direct reason for the deterioration, dependency and corruption in the country”.
“The resumption of this file, which is still a popular demand that cannot be conceded by the statute of limitations, has become more than a necessity, especially as it was every time discussed by the former regime, which was derived from its relationship with France and was aborted, so this project must be a serious and effective start to complete the path of national independence. Similar to the bill to adopt May 8 crimes as a national memory day that reveals the crimes of France, which has long tried to whitewash its image and obstruct efforts to condemn them with the help of its comets and agents in Algeria”.
For his part, the Minister of Mujahideen (war veterans), Tayeb Zitouni, said that the project came to honour May 8, 1945 martyrs, in which historical activities will be held, in addition to historical seminars, and this day will also be celebrated every year, similar to other national holidays.
