MPs prepare a new bill to criminalize French colonialism

Parliamentary group of Algeria’s Green Bloc, at the National People’s Council, formed a committee entrusted with the task of preparing a new bill that criminalizes the French colonialism in Algeria, in preparation for depositing it on the Lower Room Office.

The committee consists, according to the head of the parliamentary group of the bloc, MP Naaman Laawar, of representatives of the three parties, the Movement of Society for Peace, Renaissance Movement and the National Reform Movement, launching the preparation of the bill, which derives its outlines from the previous proposal, that was frozen at the level of the Office of the council, since January 2010, and which faced that day an overwhelming response by the House of Representatives, in addition to the bill, which was filed in 2007, by the deputies of the reform movement.

In parallel, the green bloc parties launched an “awareness campaign” of the deputies of other parties, urging them to stand by the project that is acceptable to Algerians in general, “so as not to give the impression that the proposed law does not represent only a specific political party,” says MP Lawar, in an attempt to convince the council’s office Bureau with the pretext of the proposed law, before filing the final draft.

Constitution gives a MP the power to propose bills, under the condition of getting twenty deputies’ signatures, therefore the parliamentary group of the Green bloc is not afraid of this side, as long as it has more than twice the number of signatures required (47 MPs), as much as it fears of the counicil’s office, said Naaman Laouar, adding that it becomes a real obstacle, especially after he refused a request by MPs of the three parties, to establish a parliamentary inquiry, in what it considers the forgery that reached the recent legislative elections, and the refusal of all amendments to the finance bill before it reaches the Finance and Budget Committee.
