MSP Party: What Can Be Construed From Makri’s Reelection For A New Mandate?
Unsurprisingly, Abderrezak Makri was re-elected this Sunday, May 13 at the head of the Movement for Society for Peace (MSP), at the end of the 7th extraordinary Congress of this party.
Mr. Makri will thereby preside over the destinies of this political party for the next five years. It was Madjliss El-Choura, elected by the congress delegates, who gave him this new mandate at the helm of the party, allotting him 241 votes against only 84 votes for his rival, Naâmane Laouar.
In radical positions, Abderrezak Makri, has totally controlled the party, up to the end of this congress, which allowed him to put in a minority his arch-rival of always, Abu Djerra Soltani, who did not even stand for election for the post of party president, so much so that he knew beforehand he had no chance of winning.
Thus, Abderrezak Makri surrounds himself with his “men” of confidence, like Abderazak Achouri and Abderahmane Ferhat who are his vice-presidents.
It also strengthens his grip on the advisory council, chaired by his “friend” Tayeb Aziz.
Observers note that Makri’s election victory might further reinforce the positions of the Muslim Brotherhood in Algeria, who closely followed the proceedings of this Congress by sending their delegates.
Although the recent return of the “Front of Change” of Abdelmadjid Menasra to the fold of the MSP Movement has slightly reduced the state of “fragmentation” experienced by the latter but this did not contribute to healing the woes suffered by the advocates of participation in the Government, as many of the MSP militants that believe in this very option abruptly left the party like Amar Ghoul who created his own party (TAJ), thus pushing Abu Djerra Soltani and his ally Abderrahmane Saidi, into bitter isolation more than ever before.
In his first statement to the press after his election as head of the MSP, Abderrezak Makri stressed that he will work with other opposition forces for “a democratic transition”.
