Municipal Staff threaten to Paralyze the Elections

National Federation of the municipal sector’s staff threatens to paralyze all public institutions in the upcoming days, even if it comes to the preparations for the elections, noting that 70 percent of municipalities across the country have not benefited from the remnants of the compensatory system, I.e. more than 1000 municipalities, while others benefited from a‬ part ‭of ‭ the system ‭, and very few ‭of ‭ these‬ ‭municipalities received full compensations‭. ‬

Head of the National Federation of the municipal sector’s staff, which works under the National Union for Public Administration’s users “SNAPAP, Ezzeddine Helassa, told Echorouk that, a state of anger prevails among the workers and staff of the municipal sector, therefore the federation asked for a last opportunity to meet with the Interior Ministry at the earliest time, in order to clarify the outstanding issues and agree on how to pour the remnants of the compensatory system, and discuss the rate of increases in the common sectors, which was only 25%, in addition to the integration of contractors and temporary workers.

The spokesman asserted that there was manipulation by officials of the treasury at the municipal level with respect to the instruction of the Ministry of Finance, which provided for the granting remnants of the compensatory system for the worker of the municipal sector at once, estimated at 30 to 80 million centimes. However; officials of the treasury in the municipalities refuse, for unknown reasons, to pour that money although the Ministry of ‭finance sent‬ enough money to the accounts of‭ ‬the municipalities‭ ‭. ‬

The “SNAPAP” explained that the ball is now in the range of the Interior Ministryand at the level of the municipalities as well, in order to clarify the sticking points, adding that the protests’ fate will be decided after the results of the meeting with the Interior Ministry this week at the latest, threatening to paralyze the process of preparing the elections at the municipal level and to launch a strike if no tangible results are realized by the Ministry which must intervene to force municipalities to apply the law, and gave the date of April 15 as a deadline for launching strikes and protests‭. ‬
