Muslim Brotherhood leading figure speaks to Echourok
The leading figure in the Muslim Brotherhood Doctor Abdelmounaam Abu Lfoutouh has indicated that the series of resignations taking place within the group reflects “ a significant development in the movement’s courseâ€.
- He has denied the existence of dissentions within the movement’s ranks as well any intent to run for the upcoming presidential elections in Egypt.
- Echourouk: You have expressed your intent to run the presidency in the upcoming elections in Egypt, in which way this will impact on the Muslim Brotherhood movement and what will be your future prospects for Egypt should you succeed in this endeavour?
- Abu Lfoutouh: Actually, I’m still pondering on the matter … I was disheartened by the absence of a candidate that embodies the modern Islamic scope for the Egyptian people… There are candidates who carry other values and trends that’s why I felt necessary to find a room for the Islamic trend… I long to witness the Egyptian renaissance be it in education, technology, economy and other fields of activities.
- Echourouk: A part of the Tunisian people have few weeks ago, refused the interference of Islamic parties in the political scene calling for a secular state, where does a project of an Islamic state stand in Egypt, or at least is there any consensus around the emergence of Islamic parties on the political scene ?
- Abu Lfoutouh: As we are concerned, we need a legally constituted state that guarantees justice, freedom and dignity regardless of the parties’ ideologies and trends.
- Echourouk: The military Council has yesterday asserted that it won’t let another khumeini ruling Egypt, in reference to the escalating influence of the Muslim Brotherhood among the Egyptian society, don’t you consider this statement the beginning of the perversion of the Egyptian revolution?
- Abu Lfoutouh:The statement released by the military council doesn’t concern the Muslim Brotherhood because both the military institution and the Egyptian people perfectly the movement’s ideology and its activity within the society.
- Echourouk: don’t you consider this an impediment for your candidacy to the upcoming presidential elections?
- Abu Lfoutouh: We have full confidence in our military institution and we are convinced that they will handover power after the upcoming elections because they look forward for a civilized an urbane and democratic Egypt.
