National commission to prepare reports on Algerian hospitals situation

A committee belonging to the Consultation Commission for Human Rights Promotion is expected to open some investigations within the next few days across a number of hospitals and even private clinics in different provinces. It will prepare a report to be handed over to the president of the republic containing hospitals conditions and services provided to the citizens, according to sources available to Echorouk.

 

 

 

This official body headed by lawer Farouk Ksentini will start working early next month.  Composed of parliamentarians in addition to specialists in health, the procedure is the second of it’s kind after the first commission which prepared a detailed report on prisons and penal institutions conditions which was handled by the Algeria president the beginning of this year.

 

This measure comes after many complaints from citizens who claimed services deterioration provided to them at some hospitals, in addition to reports that reached ministries of health and population mentioning death numbers rise due to repeated medical errors especially afte recent report prepared by medical ethics council revealing frightening numbers about prosecuted doctors because of medical and professional errors as well as abuses committed across numerous private clinics. The report prepared by the Consultation Commission Human Rights is a major reference for public authorities to a better and advancing health system.

Disagreement between the health system and requirements

 

The last report presented to the ministers’ council noted in the mid April, in which health policy was introduced, the decline of health services across our hospitals. It revealed  the use of old equipments, and infrastructures , the lack of health care workers, and the non- compatibility between health map and needs.

 

The report pointed out the need to do some health systems reforms supporting exact objectives including particularly bringing health near to citizens, arranging levels of treatments, and re- focusing on the prevention and treatment , then ensuring epidemiological transitions and geographical differences, and finally further quality and services improvement .

 

About 15 private clinics closed and 600 doctor judicially watched

 

 

As for private health sector, latest reports prepared by the medical ethics council revealed the influx of more than 30 foreign doctors from France and Tunisia and other countries every weekend under the “ tourist” to conduct complex surgical operations in private clinics scattered across the provinces, and who conduct also heart, kidney transplanting, and audio shell operations, through a number of private clinics, which together constitute the 170 clinics, compared with large sums of money, often for people who have been treated for complications .

 

Some 600 doctors are prosecuted. Of them, 300 are in prison for murder and professional errors charges
