National Defense Ministry Formally Refutes Statements Attributed To Lieutenant General Chanegriha On Libya

The Ministry of National Defense (MDN) on Thursday “formally” denied “false and unfounded allegations” propagated through social networks, attributed to Lieutenant General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (NPA), about recent developments in Libya.

“Some accounts and pages have propagated, via social networks, false and unfounded allegations, which they attribute to Lieutenant General Said Chanegriha, Chief of Staff of the National People’s Army (ANP), about recent developments in the situation in Libya,” the MDN said in a statement.

“The National Defense Ministry formally refutes these rumors and affirms that these false statements, which aim at sowing disorder and discord and directing public opinion towards an alignment with dubious agendas, do not serve the laudable objective and the immutable position that Algeria has always been careful to honor towards the brotherly Libyan state. A position that has been underlined, on many occasions, by the President of the Republic, affirming that Algeria has always been equidistant from the Libyan parties in conflict, and favors a constructive inter-Libyan dialogue that will lead to a lasting political solution, capable of guaranteeing stability and prosperity to the brotherly Libyan people”, the same source added.

The MDN also stressed that “the President of the Republic, Supreme Chief of the Armed Forces, Minister of National Defense is the only authority constitutionally empowered to officially rule on the positions of the People’s Democratic Republic of Algeria on sensitive international and regional issues,” the communiqué concluded.
