Elements of the National Gendarmerie have arrested the four poachers in the Sahara desert including two Algerians and two others hailing from Gulf countries.

In their illegal hunting spree, the latter used falcons and shotguns which were confiscated as well as their vehicle during the arrest operation conducted by a National Gendarmerie roving patrol.

These four persons were rounded up in the Beni Abbes area in south-western Bechar province as they were aboard a 4×4 vehicle.

After investigation, it appeared that the driver of the vehicle, a 45 year old man from Laghouat, acknowledged having known these strangers via the social network “Facebook” who contacted him in Hassi R’Mel before heading on board a rented car for Taghit to join another Algerian, aged 38, hailing from Bechar, who had already traded with him in truffles.

A Libyan contact later phoned him for an appointment at the exit of the city of Laghouat to receive the falcons to be used for the hunting of bustards on board a white vehicle.

Then, they headed south to hunt illegally before being arrested by the National Gendarmerie forces.
