New regulation to protect children from internet in Algeria
The minister of posts and communication technologies Moussa Ben Hammadi has revealed to Echourouk that the ch arter for the children’s protection against internet that has been elaborated by the relevant ministry in collaboration with other ministries will come into force at the beginning of 2012.

The minister has indicated that the new measures will summon the internet providers to provide the cybercafés’ owners and families alike to provide them with a software that comprises “ key words” whose function is to block subversive sites.

Whoever infringes the procedure will face severe sanctions including imprisonment.

M Ben Hammadi has also asserted that the new system will enable the Algerian families to select an additional list of subversive websites and put them out of reach of their children.

Figures released by experts revealed that 77 % of the overall children that surf on the internet are aged between 8 and 13 years. One in three among them suffers mental problems for being exposed to sex or violence on the internet.
