New Tribunal To Try Said Bouteflika, Tewfik, Tartag and Louiza Hanoune shortly

The military court in Blida, 50 km south of Algiers, has appointed a new military tribunal to hear the appeals filed by Said Bouteflika, Generals Tewfik and Tartag, and General Secretary of the Workers’ Party Louisa Hanoune, sentenced to 15 years in prison, while the case file will be referred to the scheduling section immediately after the trial of four generals, including General Hassan and Djebbar Mehenni, the former director of the army’s security services, which will be completed in the coming days.
Echorouk’s sources revealed that the Military Appeal Board appointed a new tribunal composed of a judge, an undersecretary, advisers and a military officer to review the felony case of conspiracy in meant to infringe on the authority of the army and conspiracy against the authority of the state. This is in line with 284 of the Code of Military Justice and Articles 77 and 78 of the Penal Code, for which the military judge recently imposed a 15-year sentence against Said Bouteflika, General Toufik and Tartag, and Secretary General of the Workers’ Party Louisa Hanoune.
It is the practice of the Military and even Civil Justice Law that, in the case of an appeal, the case will be re-examined in a different body from the first trial, which was legally overturned.
The lawyers of the defendants Said Bouteflika, General Tewfiq and Tartag, and Secretary General of the Workers’ Party Louisa Hanoune, filed an appeal before the Military Appeals Board in Blida, on 26 September, just one day after the verdict in the felony case of conspiracy against them was handed down.
The military prosecutor also appealed to the military court in Blida in the verdict against the four, along with former defense minister Gen. Khaled Nezzar, his son Lotfi Nezzar, and businessman Farid Ben Hamdaine in the legally prescribed period.
Meanwhile, another defendant the retired Army general, Djebbar Mehenni, will also appear before the military judge at the military court in Blida, after being placed in pre-trial detention on October 20, on charges of abuse of power and accumulation of illicit wealth.
