New type of driving license to be submitted to the parliament

The head of the transportation and communication committee at the parliament, Mohamed Ben Hamou revealed to “Echourouk” that a new traffic code is due to be submitted for approval during the next session, which focuses on the necessity to use a probation period through the implementation of the system of “points” before a final delivery of the driving license.

• He added that the draft law comes against the backdrop of an alarming number of traffic accidents putting Algeria, unfortunately, among the leading countries in the world.
• As to the details of this new system of evaluation, the MP said that this one comprises five basic rules which consist in first, the work on the basis of points, for instance the driver who commits mistakes that total 12 points, would be penalized through a systematic withdrawal of his driving license and would banned for a whole year. He has to pass the exams anew to recover the right to drive.
• The second principle stresses the importance of training, as most of the school monitoring in Algeria, according to M Benhammou, disregard practice at the expense of money and here comes the role of the new law which forces which forces them to increase the training hours to reach 25 hours instead of 8 or 10 with the obligation to limit the number of candidates.
• The fifth principle talks about the creation of high schools of supervisors and also insert the traffic code in the education system.
