No Application Yet For the Creation of Private TV, Radio Stations, Says Mehel
There has been no application for the creation of private TV or Radio stations, so far, as the Information Bill is still under examination in the Parliament, Minister of Communication, Nacer Mehel, said Thursday.
Mr Mhel who was the guest of government run Radio said the Information Code, which is part of President Bouteflika’s political reforms, will permit bridging gaps of the Information Code of 1990.
He added that the audiovisual is a sensitive field, comparing to the written press, “that’s why we have to carefully dealing with it,” and yet adding that “the opening of the audiovisual field will create a kind of competition between journalists operating in both private and public sectors, and likely to contribute in boosting the level and the content of journalism in Algeria.”
