The Palestinian Embassy in Algeria refuted the scenarios purported by some shadowy foreign media outlets regarding the circumstances of the death of two Palestinians in Algiers, ruling out any criminal suspicion over the deaths, by confirming that the initial investigations showed their suffocation with a gas leak in their flat.

In a statement to “Echorouk” newspaper on Monday, the advisor at the Palestinian Embassy in Algeria, Haitham Amiri, revealed that the reasons behind the death of Suleimane Farra, head of the student office of the Fatah movement, and doctor Mohamed Hamid al-Banna, who were found lifeless in their apartment, west of Algiers, are accidental and have no link to certain fake information circulating about their so-called “assassination”.

On the background of the false information promoted by some malicious foreign media outlets, Mr Haitham Amiri said that “its goal is clear: to try to disrupt the strong relations between the two brotherly countries, by raising unwarranted doubts and suspicions about the ill-fated incident.”

He stressed that Algeria is a “safe and stable country” adding that “Palestinians are duly protected similarly to the Algerian citizens.”

In this context, the Palestinian diplomat hailed the appreciation, respect and good treatment enjoyed by the Palestinians living in Algeria, whether by the Algerian people or the official authorities, denying all the baseless news that has been circulated regarding the so-called violent deaths of the two victims.

Mr. Haitham Amiri confirmed that the burial ceremonies of the Palestinian nationals will be held in Algeria, precisely in the graveyard of the coastal town of Zeralda, west of the capital Algiers.

“We are awaiting the results of the judicial investigation and the issuing of the burial permit pending the holding of the funeral ceremonies,” he indicated to this effect.

The Palestinian diplomat told “Echorouk” that the deceased doctor is Mohamed Hamid, who had completed his studies in Norway before returning to Algeria.

The second victim is Suleimane Mohamed Al-Farra, 33, who was pursuing his studies in political science.

For his part, the Palestinian Ambassador posted in Algiers, His Excellency, Mr. Louai Aissa, stated in a declaration to the press that the preliminary inspection of the bodies of the two Palestinian students showed that there was no motive for killing them, while underlining that all Palestinians residing in Algeria are enjoying safety, quietude and comfort in the country.
