No new cars in Algeria for 3 months
Car dealers complain of a delay in the release of new importing licences and freezing of banking domiciliation for more than 3 months. This comes as the law on importing and exporting licences organization stipulates that licences would be granted 60 days maximum after they are deposited.
Member of the National Association of Accredited Car Dealers and its former chief Mohamed Bairi told Echorouk the operation of granting importing licences was delayed. “They were supposed to be granted to dealers this week.”
He added that officials did not explain reasons behind the delay. No new vehicle has been allowed to enter Algerian market since January 5th except cars intended for ministries and companies.
He called on authorities to speed up procedures and settle the situation.
A specialized commission is assigned to examine applications for importing or exporting licences. It is also in charge of presenting propositions to the trade minister about products list for quotas.
Two weeks ago, acting Secretary General at the trade ministry Said Djalab said importing licences will be officially granted to accredited dealers as from April.
