Secretary General of the opponent Socialist Forces Front (FFS) said the party has not decided yet whether to take part in the upcoming parliamentary elections or not, adding that the issue is being discussed within the party.

Mr Ali Lasekri, who has been recently appointed as SG of FFS, in replacement for his predecessor Karim Tabou, said a commission has been installed to make a general understanding of the political situation in the country, and on the base of the outcome of this commission, the executive council would take a decision on whether to partake or boycott next elections.

As for the political reforms that have been launched, the freshly installed SG said he has doubts over the existence of a true political will which is essential to the success of the reforms process.

He further stressed that the opponent party will continue struggling until making change and bringing into effect democracy.

As for the absence of FFS in the consultations on the political reforms, Mr Lasekri said “the personalities who were tasked with monitoring such consultations are not independent enough.”

He concluded that the oldest opponent party in the North African nation is ready to make alliance with opponent parties and personalities “to change the current situation and materialize the democratic practice.”
