Opposition leader Saadi Saadi stepped over police car: Algerian police break up his party's protest
ALGIERS- About sixty people, who attempted to march Saturday from Martyrs Square to National Concord Square, former May 1st, have been prevented by the police.
Said Saadi called upon his few supporters from the police car but security men stopped him and took him down to the ground in a ridiculous scene.
The head of the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD), Said Sadi, and the honorary president of the Algerian League for Human Rights Defence (LADDH), Ali Yahia Abdenour are participating in this march, initiated by the National Coordination for Change and Democracy (CNCD-parties).
Another group of about forty people, from surrounding districts like Kasbah, has rallied to show their disapproval of this unauthorized march. This group chanted slogans in favour of President of the Republic Abdelaziz Bouteflika.
Interior Minister Daho Ould Kablia said Thursday that no request to hold a march in Algiers on Saturday has been submitted to the relevant authorities.
