Opposition members and banned party hold meeting in Algeria
A meeting was held between members of the ‘change march’ coordination and others from the banned-Islamic Salvation Front (FIS) to join a demonstration due to be held on Saturday, Echorouk has learnt.
- The FIS’ request to join the march was rejected by the Rally for Culture and Democracy (RCD). That provoked the rest of the coordination members especially Ali Yahia Abdenour, sources said.
- Observers believe that the attitude of the RCD’s members is an attempt to monopolise the march as their objectives are no more than exploiting Algerians’ problems and not making a real change.
- This attitude showed that there is a desire to create noise and instability in the country. Young people in Algeria do not want to talk about the bloody past which took 200,000 lives. Their principal claim is a decent life.
- It is clear that there is a strong desire to exploit the suffering of the national tragedy’s victims including missing people and terrorism victims. Many members of the RCD said last Saturday’s march failed because of their leaders Said Saadi. Opposition and demonstration have no sense when they come from a personality protected by the State.
