Outraged citizens stage peaceful rally to demand the departure of the governor

The citizens of the province of Al –Aghouat, southern Algeria, have staged a rally nearby the town hall premises to demand the cancellation of the list of the beneficiaries from the housing units dedicated to the eradication of the slums or the departure of the governor.

  •

  • Hundreds of protesters from different social categories including teachers, lawyers and intellectuals have flocked to the city’s main square demanding the departure of the governor, unless he freezes the list of the beneficiaries from the housing units.

  •

  • They have also denounced the governor’s incapacity to fulfil the various promises he has given to the associations in many occasions in the past.

  •

  • The protesters vowed to carry on their peaceful movement until the fulfilment of their requests. Some of them have declared to Echourouk that they intended to show an example of good citizenship from the inhabitants of Al- Aghouat with the view to avoiding any form of violence that could damage the reputation of their town.

  •

  • They were, in this respect, outraged by the disgraceful attitude of some individuals who get in touch with some foreign Arab satellite channels like Al Jazeera and Al- Arabia to make declarations on their behalf, asserting that they have full confidence in the president Abdelaziz Bouteflika, whose posters were held high in the different corners of the square.
