Palestinian activist and MP Jamila Achanti

Palestinian activist and MP Jamila Achanti said the Palestinian women are living a miserable situation in the Israeli detentions, and 38 of them suffer abuses by the Zionists, in light of the inability of government to free them or negotiate in this file.

Jamila Achanti , MP for Hamas movement thinks that the Palestinian woman plays a big role in serving the cause through her presence in parliament.

Echorouk: Tell us the story of the successful breaking of the siege on a group of Palestinian activists in Ennasr (victory) mosque, Beit Hanoun?

Jamila Achanti: The process came as a culmination of the former struggle, and it gave the green light to the Israelis who put me among the list of Palestinians who must be assassinated since the implementation of this process on November 2007.

Echorouk: Were you subject of harassments after that period?

Jamila Achanti: Yes, I was obliged to move according to security arrangements, because the risk stares at me from everywhere, but then I realized that the Jews would not dare to assassinate me, as long as I am protected by the Palestinian leaders. I think that the assassination of a woman would raise anger among public the opinion. I always think that they choose the right time to implement their plans.

Echorouk: Did you change your projects due to these threats?

Jamila Achanti: We do not work according to their threats, but according to our agenda and political events. I live in a border area in the same house which was bombed in 2007 in Jebel El Kachef, East of Jabalya. I renovated it and now it is my house where I live with my family. It is a challenge against Zionists.

Echorouk: Were you allowed to travel abroad?

Jamila Achnati: In the same year, I was preparing to visit Algeria to attend one of Hamas referendums, but I was not allowed to leave Palestine, because Algeria was one of the countries which support Palestinians. We breathe freedom in Algeria, for this reason we were prevented from visiting this special country. I was obliged to travel to Mecca for pilgrimage before visiting Algeria.

Echorouk: How many Palestinian women are detained?

Jamila Achnati: There are 38 Palestinian women who are still in Israeli detentions. They are subject to daily inspection and abuses there. Their families and friends cannot visit them and they suffer from various diseases because cells contain high degrees of humidity and suffer from malnutrition.
