Palestinian Djihad movement representative to Echourouk: We share a lot with Hamas movement

The member of the Islamic Djihad Movement, Nafed Aazem has denied, in an interview with Echourouk, that the merger with Hamas movement would exclude one party at the expense of another, noting that the two movements have opened started negotiations before reaching a consensus.

  • Echourouk:  Several parties have asked questions about the decisiveness of the fusion between the Djihad and Hamas movements and about the manner to reach it?

Aazem: We, at the Djihad movement, have always called on the strengthening of the ties between the Islamic forces operating on, the political scene, and we are looking forward to reaching a Palestinian unity. There have been several attempts and negotiations since the 1990s but the process didn’t continue. Now we are looking forward to resume the negotiations with the aim to reach a consensus with our brothers especially in the Hamas movement.

Echourouk: Is there any consensus about the merger operation and the implementation on the terrain?

Aazem: Unity for us is a wishful thinking and we look forward to reaching this objective but we have to be realistic because the issue requires tremendous and sustainable efforts. The process goes through several phases; the two movements didn’t reach a consensus over a one vision concerning their merger.

Echourouk: Are going to witness one movement as a consequence of the merger, or will the two movements keep their independence from one another?

Aazem: The merging process is not a priority for the time being, but we can we foster our cooperation… Unity has several aspects and the issue is worth discussing but we don’t want void slogans.

Echourouk: Many experts have linked the efforts deployed by Djihad to cooperate with Hamas to the reconciliation between Hamas and Feth and that your movement will be isolated should the reconciliation succeed?

Aazem: The merger project has nothing to do with the reconciliation between the two movements you mentioned before, Djihad movement has never been isolated and we have always played our part over the last 30 years .
