Paris Hasn’t Yet Appointed Successor To Current French Ambassador To Algiers

The French authorities have not designated a successor to the current French Ambassador in Algiers and have not made a request for accreditation of the successor of Xavier Driencourt who will be officially admitted to retirement next July, a source at the French Embassy in Algiers told “Echorouk”.

According to the same source, the French diplomatic representation in Algeria is aware of rumors relayed by certain media concerning the successor of the current French Ambassador to Algeria, believing that these rumors were presented as confirmed information.

Our source also revealed that Xavier Driencourt will be officially retired at the end of next July and that the designation of his successor goes through certain stages.

The designation of a new French Ambassador will be decided, according to the same source, by the President of the Republic at a meeting of the Council of Ministers which will be accompanied by a request for accreditation to the authorities of the host country, that is the Algerian authorities.

Several names of French diplomats have been cited for a few days on social networks as well as by certain electronic sites to succeed Driencourt, including François Gouyette who held the post of Ambassador of France to Saudi Arabia and who speaks Arabic.
