Parliamentary Elections Should Take Place On May, Oueld Kablia

The 2012 parliamentary elections are set to be scheduled for May, according to the Minister of Interior, Dahou Oueld Kablia.

At the sidelines of a plenary session at the Council of Nation (upper house of the Parliament) on Thursday, Mr Ouled Kablia told reporters that the upcoming parliamentary elections “are supposed to take place on May.”

He added that foreign monitors will be present at these political rendezvous, noting that the polling stations will be equipped with transparent ballots.

Elsewhere, the proposed new administrative division was not abandoned, but rather deferred until the best conditions for the creation of new administrative provinces are met, the minister said.

In this regard, the official specified that the postponement of the implementation of the new administrative division is mainly due to a deficit in terms of “qualified officials and the required installations,” which are essential elements for the creation of new provinces.

As for the creation of new political parties, Mr Ouled Kablia indicated that the accreditation of new parties is the outcome of a long process stipulated by the law, saying that applications, which are in line with the law in force, will be accredited “with no problem”.
