Passports’ validity to be extended to 10 years

Government’s General Secretariat plans for referring the draft texts relating to the regulatory bio-metric passport and civil status at the cabinet meeting, in the context of measures to improve the public service at the departments’ level.

Interior Ministry’s Secretary General, Ahmed Adli, confirmed in a meeting with the organization managers in Wilayas, that the texts mentioned contain new provisions that aim to upgrade the level of public service through a series of actions related to easing the administrative files and drop the number of required documents and extend the validity of passports and some civil status documents like birth certificates, and reduce the delivery deadlines.

According to the content of the texts, the Interior Ministry has proposed to the government to extend the validity of the passport to ten years instead of 5 years in force at the present time, as well as the extension of the Birth Certificates’ deadlines to same period, but in the event of a change in the civil status of the concerned.”

“Level of public service for the citizens should be improved, and this in the context of the worksheet that was underlined pursuant to the instructions that were issued by the Prime Minister, Abdelmalek Sellal, to reduce bureaucracy and restore the confidence of citizens in the administration”.

“Deletion of 60% of the administrative documents that are required in the files, is one of the most important goals of improving service. The ministry has completed the inventory of all the required documents at the level of all departments and sectors, as it showed that the number of documents that are required for the preparation of files is totally unacceptable”.

Adli concluded with highlighting the importance of the part on the training of the staff and employees of local communities, especially at the level of the services of civil status, which requires a special importance in terms of selecting “The owners of merit, seriousness and good behavior.

General Manager of the Public Liberties and Legal Affairs of the Interior Ministry, Mohamed Talbi, spoke about linking the Directorate of Documents and Secured Systems with the National Criminal Records at the level of justice for the purpose of speeding up procedures for administrative investigation, through the use of specialized teams and IT investigators who belong to the General Directorate of National Security to ensure this aspect.
