People’s National Assembly: Chairman Mouad Bouchareb Resigns

The chairman of the People’s National Assembly, Mouad Bouchareb, announced on Tuesday his official resignation.

A statement that was issued by the People’s National Assembly said; “the Bureau of the People’s National Assembly held a meeting on Tuesday, in accordance with Article 18 of the Rules of Procedure, under the chairmanship of the Vice-President of the assembly, Mr. Mohamad Mousaoudja, who was entrusted by Mr. Mouad Bouchareb to announce his resignation to the Bureau”.

Members of the Bureau took note of the resignation, then the Bureau unanimously approved the vacancy of the position of Chairman of the People’s National Assembly because of the resignation.

In accordance with rule 10 of the rules of procedure, the Bureau of the assembly decided to refer the file of the position’s vacancy to the Legal, Administrative and Liberties Committee to prepare the vacancy proof report.

The PNA’s Bureau unanimously decided to entrust the Vice-President, Teribeche Abdelrrazzak, to run the affairs of the assembly until the election of a new chairman.

The members of the Presidency of the People’s National Assembly, called on Monday, the Chairman of the Council, Mouad Bouchareb, to “submit his resignation immediately” from the presidency of the assembly before the conclusion of the parliamentary session.

Article 10 of the Rules of Procedure of the People’s National Assembly stipulates that “if there is a vacancy of the presidency of the People’s National Assembly because of resignation, disability, or death, the chairman of the People’s National Assembly should be elected in the same manner as specified in these Rules of Procedure for a deadline of fifteen days from the date of the declaration of vacancy.”

According to the same article, “the PNA’s Bureau, which meets for this purpose, prepares the vacancy report and transmits it to the Committee that is responsible for the legal affairs. The Committee shall prepare a report on the proof of the vacancy situation, to be presented in the plenary session for approval by a majority of the members of the assembly. In this case, the oldest vice-chairpersons will oversee the election process with the help of the two youngest deputies of the People’s National Assembly”.
