Petition to be forwarded to the parliament for the enforcement of death penalty in Algeria
Many actors of the civil society are preparing an initiative to be forwarded to the parliament and the government alike in an attempt to pressure them to enact the death penalty against kids’ killers and molesters.
A petition written in three languages reads “The Algerian people demand the government and the parliament to enforce death penalty against rappers and killers because we believe that the move will curb the horrible crimes that our society suffers from… We also call for the creation of rehabilitation centers for the benefit of delinquents”.
Calls for the enforcement of death penalty in Algeria came in the wake of the two horrendous crimes perpetrated against the two girls Cheimaa and Soundous recently.
Despite the popular support for the enforcement of death penalty against drug dealers, killers and rappers, legislators and civil rights activists including the Consultative Committee for the Promotion of Human Rights have always imposed their veto.
To recall the Algerian authorities have stopped implementing this sentence in 1993, the date where the terrorists involved in the bombing of Algiers international airport were executed.
Algeria has officially announced the cancellation of death penalty in 2010 and joined the international committee for the abrogation of this sentence.
