Political Reforms: Bouteflika Heads Ministers’ Council

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika to head on Sunday the council of ministers which is due to assess a bunch of draft bills related to media, political parties, civil society organizations, and the draft budget bill of 2012, ahead of submitting them for examination to the Parliament.

In this regard, the draft bill on political parties offers to individuals, of whom party’s accreditation demand is rejected, the possibility to appeal the decision, for the first time.

This draft bill, however, bans political parties subject, previously, to dissolution from returning to the scene, in addition to banning ex-convicted people to set up parties, in reference to the Islamist Salvation Front (FIS) and its senior officials, as the party was disbanded in the early nineties and its leaders were sent to prison.

The ministers’ council, also, looks at the draft bill on civil society associations, which has endured a revision as not to interfere with draft bill on political parties.

The draft budget law of 2012 takes into consideration recommendations of the latest tripartite meeting held in May, including tax exemption to importers of raw materials‭ destined to production, and some tax facilities for big companies.
