Portugal’s EDP could extend partnership with Algeria ’s Sonatrach

EDP Energias of Portugal could extend its partnership with Algerian state-owned energy group Sonatrach to Brazil and Algeria , Diario Economico reported without citing sources.

 

The paper said EDP Energias is mulling the construction of combined cycle gas plants in Brazil in partnership with Algeria ’s Sonatrach.

 

It added that in Algeria , EDP is interested in the tenders Sonatrach is expected to launch to build five combined cycle gas plants in the Mediterranean coast.

 

 Each projected plant is expected to represent an investment of about 200 million euros.

 

The paper said EDP CEO Antonio Mexia told journalists yesterday the partnership with Algeria ’s Sonatrach could be expanded to other countries besides Portugal and Spain but did not disclose further details.

 

Sonatrach holds 2.03% of EDP’s share capital and is expected to increase its stake to 5 %.
