Pressure Increased Against Macron’s Party In France

The SADR Friends Association in France considered the French party’s declaration of “La République En Marche” to open a branch in Dakhla in the occupied Saharan territories, a flagrant violation of international law and France’s international obligations, calling on the Secretary-General of the party, Guerini Stanislas, to backtrack on this disastrous step.

In a letter sent to the Secretary-General of the ruling party in France, published by the Sahara Press Service on Monday, the association expressed its “astonishment” at the decision of the ruling party in France, which described the occupied territories of Western Sahara as “the southern provinces of Morocco”.

This is what the association considered “a blatant contradiction to international law and United Nations resolutions, which still considers these lands a non-self-governing region awaiting the completion of the decolonization process, which means that Morocco’s presence is nothing more than an illegal military occupation force”.

The association also asserted in its statement that “the French party’s move is a denial of international law, in the footsteps of former US President Donald Trump, who illegally recognized Morocco’s alleged sovereignty over Western Sahara, and reproduced the gestures of African countries that also opened so-called “consulates” in the occupied cities of Laayoune and Dakhla”.

In the context, the association explained the seriousness of these steps, which it said “complicate the already tense situation on the ground since last November 13, after the impact of the Moroccan military assault on peaceful Sahrawi protesters in the illegal breach in the buffer zone in Guerguerat in the far southwest of Western Sahara, which led to the collapse of the ceasefire between the two parties (the Polisario Front and Morocco) in 1991.

The association also warned against “the consequences of the ruling party’s acceptance of this step that aimed at legitimizing the occupation of a territory that is placed under the tutelage of a people which have not yet been able to exercise its inalienable right to self-determination that was enacted 60 years ago by the United Nations and to submit to the Moroccan occupation lobbies In France, like the French-Moroccan Chamber of Commerce and Industry”.

The SADR concluded its letter to the Secretary-General of LREM party, stating that it is “unacceptable to register against the movement that brought President Macron to power, and which enjoys a large majority in the National Assembly, a denial of international law and placing the legitimacy of the French Republic at stake because of the betrayal of its international obligations”.
