Professor Mohamed Arezki, President of the Algerian Association of Neurological Diseases said transient ischemic attack (TIA) can be treated in an hour by medicines so that it would not be turned into cerebrovascular accident (CVA).

The CVA or the stroke which exceeds an hour happens when blood circulation can not reach the brain. That causes vessel explosion and may paralyze the body temporarily.

“People hit by TIA are lucky because they can recover if they are looked after medically,” said the professor.

Partially paralyzed patients undergo function re-education starting from the first day of the disease until the first three months following the attack.

“60 percent of people hit by CVA recover while 40 percent are paralyzed forever and they may die in case of hemorrhage.”

Speaking about reasons behind those health troubles, Professor Arezki said they touch old people who are more than 65 due to high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, smoking and overweight.
